DSC_1272The Royal Montserrat Police Service supervises and regulates entry into the uninhabited two-thirds of Montserrat classified as the Exclusion Zone. In conjunction with the Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO) and the Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA), the RMPS deals with any and all reports that may stem from within the unsafe zone, including but not limited to volcanic activity from the still active Soufriere Hills Volcano.

Zone V Access Regulations:

Entry to Zone V and other restricted zones is prohibited anytime during the day or night. People, who need to enter Zone V for official purposes, must first receive written permission from the Commissioner of Police. 

Zone C Access Regulations (Effective June 2013)

Entry to Zone C is authorized ONLY if a person possesses a valid permit and has registered at the Salem Police Station. Any person found not to be in possession of a Zone C Entry Permit will be expelled from the exclusion area. Any person who refuses to leave Zone C after being directed to do so by any Police Officer can be arrested and charged criminally. Persons who are repeatedly found in Zone C without a permit can be banned from the exclusion zone indefinitely.

Persons who visit Zone C but are found to be in contravention of the terms and conditions of their entry permit will be expelled from the exclusion area.

Zone C will be open to the public from 8:00am to 4:00pm daily, including weekends and holidays. Persons found in Zone C outside of those hours will find themselves locked behind the area gates. Person may be subject to a fee for unauthorized access to the Zone after hours.

There is no cost to enter Zone C. However persons are required to have a mobile phone and a motor vehicle to enter, this is needed to make contact with persons in swift exit is required.

***Entry in the Exclusion Zone is subject to weather conditions and volcanic activity.

Persons are encouraged to listen to Radio Montserrat for updates and call ahead of their visit.
